Our Special Animals (past and present)

We love taking care of the resident special needs animals.

Tobano (rip)
Tobi was one of the splay leggers, and the only one to survive as long as he did. He was able to get around relatively well, despite his problem with his right hock. I eventually put him to sleep after he started a long line of unknown sickness, probably chronic infections. He was an amazing baby sitter, and I even have a video of him giving some younger chicks a hug with his bad leg.

Cika Lee (rip)
Cika Lee was my Buff Orpington pullet, and probably my smartest chicken to date. She would come flapping over when I called her name, would scratch at her cage when I asked her if she wanted to go outside, and would come back when she was ready to go back to bed. I still believe a snake bit her foot and caused gangrene, though she never lost her foot from it, it kept getting more and more deformed. She ended up passing 7 weeks after her injury due to unknown causes. My farm is named after her.

(RIP) Anise
Anne was our little blind chick. She was born that way. We thought she may have been able to see shadows, but it was never proven. She got around great, and even flew out of the brooder and took her sisters out on walks! (read about it on our "Silly/ Sad/ Inspiring Stories" page, called "Anise's Adventure!") She raised the young chicks that were hatched artificially, and even let them ride on her back! She lived on for a good while, but she went down one day and never got better.

Renegade
Ren, like Gash, has a blind eye. He got his name after Maverick the Australorp because he looks just like a white version of him! Ren is a big, white Leghorn rooster, and is a calm soul. Usually my half blind roosters will lay low like a Corolla in city traffic, but Ren is third in command, right under Mavis and Julius!
